Why I left social media.

Hey, Dolls!

I had a completely different post planned for today, but things have been a little hectic lately and I just wanted to get here, let everything out and kind of chit-chat. This is a more personal post and although I mostly share beauty related content, I also like personal posts that reveal the true identity of the writer. I love reading these, so I hope you enjoy this one.

If you haven’t read my about me, go and check it out. But for now, I’ll tell you, if you don’t know it already, I am Puerto Rican. And if you don’t know it either, hurricane María hit the island on September 19th. It was a category 5 hurricane and Puerto Rico had not experienced a hurricane of that magnitude since almost two decades. The results were devastating. Many people lost their homes, they lost communication, supplies, and electricity. People died trying to save others and some died from illness and lack of med or supplies for their condition.

Why am I bringing this up or what does it have to do with social media?

After hurricane Maria passed I could not communicate with my family or friends. I was stressed, desperate and needed some time to heal. Logging into social media only made my situation worse. Seeing all this chaos, how the island was left, everyone suffering, not knowing if their families were okay, was overwhelming, but most of all, heartbreaking.

I was lucky enough to speak with my dad and grandmother the day after hurricane María passed, but I had no news from my mom. It was hard to wake up every morning, go to work and deal with everyone asking how was I doing and how was my family doing. I put on a fake smile and said, “they’re okay, thank you”. It’s hard to deal with this, it’s hard to be reminded every day at all times of your family, the chaos they’re living in and the situation happening back home. It is hard to continue with your life even though you have no clue of how your family is doing, or if they’re okay. Don’t get me wrong, I know they wanted to make sure I was okay, but being reminded every day of the situation was not the ideal way of making sure I was okay, or wanting me to. I even posted a status on Facebook that I was not ready to talk about it, yet I dealt with it every day. Then again, I understand they are looking after me, but I needed time to heal, I needed time for myself, I needed time to get emotionally stable again.

Social media was making me worse. All the news on the situation back home, the despiteful comments from the president and other Americans, people begging for help and not being listened to, people worried about their families, pictures, and videos were making me cry every single time. I had to leave social media, so I left.

I have never felt this way before. It is frustration, sadness, impotence, but most of all I felt scared and hurt. I felt scared not knowing how my mom and grandmother were doing. I felt hurt that my little place of heaven and gold was destroyed. The place where I was born, the place that watched me grow, the place that made me into the person I am today. I cannot explain how much hurt and sadness I felt. I kept calling my family with no answer in return. I kept hoping and praying they were okay. I burst into tears every time I heard something and every day that passed and I had no answer or call from them.

11 days after hurricane Maria destroyed my island I finally heard my mom. All my fears washed away and a weight was put off my shoulders. I cannot explain the excitement and relief I felt after knowing she was okay. Now I can continue with my life and be the person I was again.

I left social media because it wasn’t healthy for me, I needed time to rest, heal, cry and feel good again. Hearing bad news every day was killing me and I could not bear the idea that my family and friends were suffering. I scheduled pins, tweets, and posts to keep everything going and I left, for good. In the meantime, I worked on new content, pictures and ideas for the blog. It really helped me to get distracted from all this situation and chaos happening back home.

Now I feel renewed, calm and more stable emotionally. Now I can hop on social media for a little bit, not too much yet. I’m still digesting everything that happened, healing and getting better. I do feel more calm and comfortable, although I still don’t like to talk about it. Repeating what happened brings back memories, makes me sick to my stomach and open wounds were not completely healed. My friends and family are still going through a hard time and it still hurts. Little by little I’ll get back up again and I know they will too.

What I learned.

·      Taking a break from social media is okay, besides you don’t owe anything to social media, so take as many breaks as you want.

·      Taking care of yourself is important. If we’re not okay, nothing else can be and nothing else can work or function. If our mind and heart are not in the right place, nothing else makes sense. It is important that we feel comfortable with ourselves before we continue with everything else.

·      Crying is okay. Letting everything out is also okay and sometimes it’s what we need to feel better.

What you should take from this.

·      When someone is suffering, emotionally unstable or having issues it is okay to reach out and let them know you’re there for them, just don’t push it too much. By this I mean it is okay to ask how are they doing, but not every single day or push them to talk to you. Let them know you are there for them whenever they’re ready. We want to hear we have someone for emotional support, what we don’t want is to be reminded every day of the situation we’re in by people always asking. We need time to think, cry and heal. We get that you want to help and we appreciate it, but asking every single day how are we will not help in our healing process.

What I want from this is to let you guys know that I am very grateful for everyone who reached out and was concerned, but I also want you guys to know how the other side feels and in another occasion, just offer to help when they’re ready and let them heal at their own pace.

I want you guys to know that social media can be toxic, so it’s very important that we know how to manage it. It is okay to take a break and it is very important that we take care of ourselves. Have taken a break from social media before? How was it?

Air Repair Skincare Product Review

Hey guys! A few weeks ago, the amazing team of air repair skincare contacted me to see if I wanted to try their products in exchange for my opinion. After looking at their website and reading what they’re all about, I got very excited and accepted immediately.

Disclaimer: These products were sent to me in exchange for my honest opinion. I am not getting paid to write this nor are the links mentioned here affiliate links. I do not get a comission if you purchase from them. Some of the information here is from their website.

Who are they?

Air Repair Skin Care is created by skin care specialist and licensed esthetician, Denise Spanek. Her mission is to make it easy for people to achieve healthy, glowing skin at any age. She created a nature-based line of products to address inflame- aging. The products are created with clean chemistry, healing botanicals, and natural extracts that are specifically formulated to block inflammatory mediators and help the skin repair itself. The products are free from petroleum, mineral oil, and parabens. They are also gluten-free and cruelty-free.

What is it?

Air Repair Skin Care is a skin care line made to combat the effects of environmental stressors that trigger inflam-aging of the skin. It is made with healing botanicals and natural extracts. Their purpose is to heal your skin or prevent from irritation or inflammation due to air pollution or weather changes. All their products are travel size and TSA approved, so you can take them with you when you travel.

 Air Repair® Skincare Complexion-Boosting Moisturizer $21

What it is:

It’s a regenerating treatment cream that helps repair dull, tired and dehydrated skin.

What it does:

It moisturizes and rejuvenates stressed and inflamed skin. It prevents chronic inflammation, or “inflam-aging,” which causes dryness, dehydration, irritation and premature aging.

My experience:

I loved the consistency and texture of this cream. Although I am not a fan of creams for the face, this one is so light-weight, smooth and very comfortable to wear. It sinks into the skin immediately, it is not thick and leaves your skin feeling smooth, soft and hydrated instantly. I have very dry skin and this cream leaves it feeling very hydrated and soft. I absolutely love how thin and fast absorbent it is.

                          Complexion-Quenching Facial Mist $10

                                                                             What it is:

It is a facial mist loaded with moisturizing and refreshing ingredients to instantly cool and soothe skin. Can be used as a toner, setting spray or facial mist. As a toner, spray product into a cotton pad and aply all over face. As a setting spray, spray all over face after makeup application. As a facial mist, spray all over face throughout the day to refresh makeup and face.

What it does:

It hydrates the skin, living a cooling and refreshing feeling.

My Expirience:

This was the product I was most excited about. It is a facial mist, setting spray and toner in one.  I absolutely love this product. The fact that it is travel size and has skin care ingredients in it has me drooling about it. The thing is I alwas buy a setting spray twice, it’s regular size and the travel size and if I only buy one, I always go for the travel size so I can have it with me at all times. I love the refreshing feeling it gives to the skin and I also love that you can use it for more than one thing.

Super Hydrating Eye Cream $23

What it is:

It is a multi-purpose eye treatment that relieves and protects dry, fragil skin around the eye area.

 What it does:

It adds hydration to the under-eye and helps diminish the apperance of fine lines. With continued use, it can diminish the apperance of dark circles and reduce under-eye puffiness.

My expirience:

I use this every night and I love how light-weight and refreshing it feels. I apply it with a Q-tip to prevent mixing the residue I have on my hands from the face cream. If you apply face cream with your hands and then apply the eye cream right after withouth washing your hands, you’re mixing products and can cause irritation. This has happened to me before, so that’s why I take these precautions.

A little goes a very long way, so this tube can last quite some time. I love how smooth and soft my under-eye feels in the morning. It makes my eyes look rested and awake.

Soothing Facial Cleansing Milk $10

What it is:

Cleans and refreshes stressed skin with soothing plant extracts.

What it does:

Removes dirt and makeup without stripping the skin of moisture. It is ideal for all skin types (mature, oily, acne prone, and even rosaceous). Its nourishing ingredients calm and hydrate, yielding a soft and smooth complexion.

My Expirience:

I have never tried a cleansing milk before, so this was kind of interesting. For some reason I thought that using the term milk was just that, using the term. I never thought it would actually feel like milk. I know, it might sound dumb, but that’s what I thought. It removes dirt and makeup without you even feeling it. I felt I was putting on a regular cream rather than a cleanser. I rather go for a cleansing oil or soap, but this guy does it’s job. It leaves skin feeling smooth and soft right after and the next day my face felt like a baby’s butt. I actually was impressed with the results and I really liked it.

Rescue Balm All-Purpose Skin Slave And Lip Balm $12

What it is:

It is s a multi-tasking skin healer. It can be used for the lips, hands, face, cuticles, elbows, or anywhere on the body to help alleviate dry, flaky skin instantly.

What it does:

Rescue Balm soothes, protects, and nourishes on contact. It is made with potent emollients that help prevent transepidermal water loss (or the loss of water through the outermost layer of the skin)one of the primary causes of dry skin.

My Expirience:

I’m going to be very honest, I thought this was just a blam so I have only tried it as a lip cream. It is a balm but it also has water in it. I can definitely see how it can prevent water loss. A little goes a long way too and the tube contains a lot of product. I did not like the taste or smell on this one, so it is kind of uncomfortable to wear as a lip balm. I did felt my lips hydrated and smooth after several uses. I can say it has benefits with continued use. I am very excited to try it out on my face to see how that works. I will definitely keep trying out this one and I’ll update you guys on Social Media.

Overall Thoughts:

I absolutely love the concept of this brand. The fact that their purpose is to take care of your skin while you travel and through weather changes is amazing. I have never seen a brand do this before. I love how all their products are travel size and TSA approved. It saves us time and money. Now you don’t have to buy a full size and a travel size or switch containers every time you travel. I also love that it comes in its own pouch, so again, you don’t have to be finding storage for it. It also has a clip for you to attach to the bag or suite case. I love how you can use this for travel, or even for weather changes. Now that we are transitioning between summer and fall I think it’s going to be perefect for your skin. You can also carry this pouch with you at all times. It is small, so it fits comfortably in your purse or every day bag. You can also use it as an emergency kit, which is also great. I really liked all these products and the company mission and view in the skincare industry. I am very glad they made these products thinking in travelers, people with senitive skin or people who’s live is hectic and are always on the go.

All these products are sold together as a kit or individually. Make sure to check out their website . It contains all the information you need and they also have videos explaining the brand and what they do, which I also thought it was great for poeple who doesn’t like to read or are just stopping by.

Let me know if you suffer from skin irritation too, due to weather changes. Are you a traveler and would you consider buying these products? Have you tryed them before and if so, do you like them? Let me know what you think. I want to know how many of you know from this brand and have you loved it? Don’t forget to check their website and our social media for more updates and little reviews in these products.

I invite all of you to be part of our Facebook community were we share makeup and skincare tips and tricks, makeup looks, questions and share all the information we have. You can also share your thoughts, looks and questions. We’d love to have you there.

How to achieve a natural makeup look in 8 easy steps.

As much as I love makeup, my favorite makeup look is the natural makeup look. I just love to clean, awake and fresh. It is my go to for every day, work and for those days that I don’t want too much on. On this post, I’ll share the products I use for my 10 minute no makeup, makeup look.

Benefits of a natural makeup look.

1.     You look clean, awake and fresh.

2.     Takes 15 minutes or less.

3.     Don’t have to use that many products.

4.     You’ll look that you don’t have that much makeup, although you do.

#1 Primer

Always, always, use a primer before applying any makeup, choose the one that best fits your need. In my case, I use NYX Hydra touch primer for extra hydration. NYX Angel Veil and NYX pore eraser. You don’t have to use three, just use the ones your skin needs but always use a primer.

#2 Foundation

Wearing a foundation is crucial. A lot of people don’t use foundation because they think they don’t need it. Others think that less is more and they avoid this step. In makeup, it doesn’t work this way. You have to use a foundation to even your skin tones, texture and for the other makeup to stay and blend in. The foundation is a base that holds everything you put on your face. Without anything to hold the rest of the makeup, nothing is going to last.

#3 Eyebrows

I like to do my eyebrows and then conceal but you can do this step after if you like. Eyebrows are very important and you shouldn’t avoid drawing them just because you’re going for a natural look. Eyebrows help shape and define the face. If you want to keep it more natural you can go for the feathery look or draw them with an eyebrow pencil. I don’t do this because I personally don’t like.

For my eyebrows, I use ABH Dip Brow Pomade. I am absolutely in love with this product. It is very easy to use, waterproof and leaves your eyebrows so snatch, they can last for days. I love that everything stays in place and they look clean. You can create bold looks as well as lighter, soft and natural look. I always clean my eyebrows with concealer after drawing them to perfect or erase any mistakes.

#4 Conceal

Before getting into it, I’ll let you know that you can avoid this step if you’re in a hurry and have no time. You can conceal your dark circles with your own foundation. Since the foundation is your skin’s tone, you can apply as much as you need and won’t look too dark or too light. Just apply the amount necessary to cover the dark circles.

What I like to do, is use an orange concealer to balance the skin tone on my undereye and then go over with concealer to brighten the area. What I’ve been doing lately is using a yellow concealer first and then a lighter one. The under eye will look conceal and more bright than usual, but at the same time, you won’t look like you have to white under eye because the yellow helps to balance it out.

#5 Set the Face

It is very important too to set the face with loose powder to avoid creasing. In my case, since I have dry skin, I only set my entire face, I don’t like to bake or apply an excessive amount of powder in my under-eye area. Doing this will only accentuate my fine lines and make that area dryer. I am currently using Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder and I love how gentle it is on my skin.

#6 Mascara

There’s not much to say about mascara other than I do use a very expensive mascara just because I tried and spent a lot of money on drugstore mascaras and they made my eyes itchy. Never found out what it was, but they did. I tried some high-end mascaras too and experienced mayor fallout or didn’t like the wand. I came across Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara and it has been my holy grail ever since.

#7 Contour

I always contour my face, I do think this is a step you can avoid but contouring will add warmth to your skin and definition. I never leave my house without contouring. Right now, I am testing the Kat Von D Shade & Light Contour Palette and although it does not match my undertones I manage to work with it. It is not a bad palette, it’s just that it doesn’t match my skins complexion. I do swear by ABH Contour Kit, if you want to check that one out.

#8 Lips

This one is totally up to you too. You can just clean your lips and remove the foundation, apply some chap stick and the look will look good too. In my case, I like to go for nudes. I tend to vary between a brown or pink nude.

I’ll wrap it up here. You can definitely modify these steps and products as you please. I just made a list and jot down what I do so you can have an idea and hopefully, this serves you as a guide. Definitely, let me know what products you use for your everyday natural look.

·      Ahorras tiempo.

·      Es más fácil de realizar.

·      No se requiere de mucha técnica.

·      No necesitas tantas brochas.

·      Hace ver el rostro parejo y saludable.

·      Se puede utilizar para cualquier evento a cualquier hora del día.

·      Lo puedes alterar y arreglar a tu gusto.

#1 Primer

Fall Makeup Look Using Jaclyn Hill X Morphe Palette

I have been loving the Jaclyn Hill X Morphe palette and since it is fall and the palette has some pretty fall shades I decided to create a burgundy makeup look with it. Burgundy and purples are my go-to colors when I want to go all out and this palette has some pretty amazing shades. It’s perfect for fall, which is around the corner, for a night out or even to go grocery shopping, because who doesn’t like to be extra. (emoji raising hand)
